PA Cyber Families

Cyber alert - School districts attacks but we must respond

Dear Families,

While budget discussions have started in Harrisburg, the Montrose School District is busy passing resolutions regarding our public cyber schools that is full of misconceptions.  The resolution states that our schools do not have academic performance targets or no corrective actions.  It also states that our schools have no academic accountability.  But the biggest misconception is that we are taking money from school districts and costing the districts.  We have included the resolution as a link here.

As you already know, our schools are just as accountable as as traditional brick and mortar schools, but they are also accountable to parents. PA public cyber schools receive approximately 70 percent of what it costs to educate a child in the local districts but yet our schools are used as a scapegoat for the budget shortfalls.

For families in the Montrose School District, please send a letter to the school board and letting them know you are disappointed in the resolution and even more disappointed in the myths they continue to spread about our schools.  District after district will continue to blame our schools for their budget woes. Also contact your legislators in the Montrose School District to let them know about how wonderful our schools are for our children.

Here are the legislators in Susquehanna County:

Senator Lisa Baker                      (717) 787-7428
Senator Gene Yaw                        (717) 787-3280
Representative Tina Pickett     (717) 783-8238
Representative Sandra Major     (717) 783-2910

We need to continue to respond to similar resolutions or stories that put our schools in a bad light. We need to respond to each and every story to educate the public about our schools and how they are helping our children.

Also, take a moment and call your legislator and thank them for our public cyber schools and ask them to help protect the funding for the schools.  Legislators are hearing from our opponents and they need to hear from you!

Thank you for helping to protect our schools!

Stay Energized!
