Cyber Alert - Day on the Hill Approaching
April 29, 2009

Dear Families,

We are now into the final weeks before our annual "Day on the Hill" rally. There is every indication that proposals designed to cut funding for cyber charter schools will try to find its way into the budget debate in June.  Our best response as parents will be to fill the Capitol on May 12!

If you haven't registered, please do so as soon as possible.  It is quick and easy, just go to this link on our website: http://www.pacyberfamilies.org/register09/ .  I want to thank all of those families who have already registered.  By registering you will help us know how many families to expect.

If the idea of meeting with your representative sounds a bit intimidating, just remember they are your representatives - they represent you. When a constituent travels to Harrisburg to talk about an issue, it really does make an impression.

So please try to schedule an appointment and if you are able, bring your kids with you. If you are not comfortable getting into the specifics of the legislative process, just tell them why cyber schooling works for you and ask for their support. Your presence will go a long way in keeping our schools open and thriving.

We are also planning on holding several online chat sessions in the coming weeks to discuss how to talk with your representatives, how to get around the Capitol, and other issues and plans for May 12.  So please stay tuned.

We are also looking for parent volunteers to help us register families in the rotunda.  If you will be interested in helping us, please email us at info@pacyberfamiles.org .

Please register and come to Harrisburg on May 12!  Help us fill the Capitol rotunda with cyber families!  I am looking forward to seeing and meeting all of you there!

American Pioneer of Teaching Awards

Recently the National Coalition for Public School Options (NCPSO) announced the American Pioneer of Teaching Award, to recognize top performing elementary and secondary teachers who work in pioneering public schools, such as virtual, charter and magnet schools.

I am pleased to tell you that Jane Ferris a teacher at the Pennsylvania Leadership Charter School, University Scholars division was selected as one of the finalists for this year’s award.  Ms. Ferris is known for reenactments of historical events.  She was nominated by one of her students who noted her ability to “make history come alive.”

Please go to the NCPSO website at:  http://www.publicschooloptions.org/americanpioneer/   and vote for Jane!  The deadline for voting is 5 pm on May 3rd!

Keep moving forward!
