| Cyber Alert - Families Need To Respond |
June 29, 2009
Dear Families,
Today HB 1802 was introduced by Representative Barbara McIlvaine-Smith which calls for capping and cutting funding for cyber charter schools. As you may recall, Rep. McIlvaine-Smith spoke at our Day on the Hill last year in support of our schools. We are surprised that someone who used to be a supporter has taken the unusual step of sponsoring legislation that would devastate our schools. HB 1802 is similar to the Beyer legislation of the past and seeks to treat our children as second class citizens, less important than other children. This bill would cap the amount schools would receive for regular education students. But even more disturbing, this bill would drastically cut funding for special education students. We need to call, write and fax our representatives and urge them to not support this piece of legislation. We also need to contact Rep. McIlvaine-Smith and respectfully request her to withdrawal this bill. If you do not know who is your representative you can find them by going to our home page and clicking on "Useful Links" and then clicking "Find your Legislator". Rep. McIlvaine-Smith can be reached by: Hon. Barbara McIlvaine Smith 107 East Chestnut Street West Chester, PA 19380 (610) 696-4990 Fax: (610) 738-2163 Hon. Barbara McIlvaine Smith 121A East Wing PO Box 202156 Harrisburg, PA 17120-2156 (717) 705-1922 Fax: (717) 780-4778 You can email her at: http://www.pahouse.com/contact/viaLDPC.asp?district=156 Look for more updates as we get them. Thank you again for helping protect our schools! Keep Moving Forward! Cindy Strausburger President
